Finally a free undelete that works

I have used this one it is truly free and without restrictions, but it's a bit tedious since you have to enter the first letter of every file name as it is being recovered and press Enter:

Others I like
  1. Undelete from NTFS drives, it really works. So simple, it makes you glad you formatted in NTFS. |MG| FreeUndelete 2.0.32209 Download
I have not tried this one but it looks promissing: PhotoRec - CGSecurity

More open source tools I have not tried, but I like this very comprehensive list:

My PC - My Personal Computer

Rebuilding my HP m7070n with the 3 DVDs I just received within 12 hours of ordering them online.
It took 5 hours from pressing F10 to restore to accessing the Internet. Thankfully, there is almost no intervention required, just let it copy from the DVDs to the fresh hard disk.
I have this 200 GB drive so it will be my new C: since it will only record TV shows and access the Internet I want the machine to run at top speed. I deleted most of the toy software that comes with the new machine.
I am installing the following applications in this order:
  1. AVAST Free anti-virus

Computers I have known

1984 The Kaypro 10, with 10 MB hard drive, it was cool but ran CP/M.
included PerfectWriter, PerfectCalc, PerfectFiler, and PerfectSpeller, as well as Kaypro's own compiled S-BASIC (which produced executable .com files). PerfectFiler featured non-relational, flat-file databases suitable for merging a contact list with form letters created in PerfectWriter. Source: Kaypro - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arthur C. Clarke lived in Sri Lanka while working on the movie version of his science-fiction novel "2010". He used his Kaypro II and a modem. source: Kaypro II computer

1981 The Commodore VIC-20 complete. I gave it to John 20 years later, he probably dumped it for me, since I didn't have the heart to do it myself. Commodore Vic 20 VIC-20 - DenialWiki

Managing manuals and home inventory

With so many technical products around, I find it hard to keep track of the manuals. Even when I find it, the information in on paper... What a waste of time.  Many manuals are now available online directly from the manufacturer's website. Some valiant souls have started websites designed to help you locate manuals and other details about products you own. They also keep track of your inventory.

I bought a 5 in 1 wireless printer/scanner/copier/fax/PCfax

  1. Did I mention I'm very happy with this product? DEPENDABLE is the keyword, it just works.
  2. I bought the Brother-mfc-7840w-monochrome-laser a wireless network printer!
Toner TN330 1500 pages for 49$ is 3.2 cents per page (don't bother)
Toner TN360 2600 pages for 60$ is 2.3 cents par page (a fair price)

It took 3 hours to get all features working wirelessly on one PC. Because my wireless access point is an antique, I had to connect the printer to the hub. I rebooted the printer and it then detected it's settings in DHCP (well after a few attempts). Once my first computer was configured over the wire, I went to the printer and set it to Wireless (WLan) and it was instantly available without cable.

It took 3 minutes on the second PC from inserting the CD to reboot.

All features work as expected. It responds instantly to printing and produces clear results. Converts scanned documents to file, email, text (OCR) quickly and with a single button. Faxes wirelessly from any PC over the phone (not wireless of course).
  3. This is just a printer I looked into because it offers the best price per page (toner is 2 cents per page)

  5. TROUBLESHOOTING: Keeps going OFFLINE on the portable.
