Publicly tout more privacy controls to stave off said reaction.
Fine tune new ad method until advertisers are happy AND the acceptable amount of protesting happens from users (the acceptable amount increases with every new user sign up).

Light shines in High Arctic darkness

Facebook's new messaging system: More than just email?
I like the idea that it combines anything grouped by person (this feature actually is useful), so email, Instant Messaging, SMS, all end up in the same stream, and I don't have to remember what technology each person prefers. Facebook takes care of the list. I expect all providers to copy this move very quickly. Steve

Facebook and Microsoft Fuse Labs take off the gloves!
It has happened, Microsoft launched it's first volley into the Cloud computing arena with Fuse Labs Docs.com Blog. Actually I'm waiting for my invitation, but merging all Facebook members with Microsoft Docs, and choosing a virtually illegal name sure to cause tons of confusion (are you using Microsoft Docs or Google Docs?)

Regaining your Privacy in the New Facebook
