Fête de la Famille 2011

Yesterday was the city of Laval - Fête de la Famille, a huge event held at the Centre de la Nature. I coordinate some volunteers and logistics for about 10 hours. It poured heavily in the morning, the clouds parted at noon and closed at six as we send the crowd home. Then an other deluge, I couldn't see across the lake. I got home at 7:30 soaked and muddied (flip-flop footware flips mud up all over my back, who knew?) so I spent the evening comming to life, showering, and soaking my lovely white shorts and white shirt. The stains should come out.

Halloween is Strange

This was my outfit Friday; pumpkin man meets the propeller head, that green cup really clashes.

It was fun, everyone had a laugh, the janitor would walk past the classroom door and blow, some students would risk spinning my prop! It was good fun all day.

Funny coincidence, the director, as well as my boss and our top client dropped by to visit my class... I kept the hat on, of course; it was informal and fun, but I'm not sure it's good for image and career building.

2 Pairs Of Brothers Catch Up After 40 years

The Lavallé and the Edwards brothers meet again after 40 years. Between the four of us, we have 160 years of memories to catch up on observed Bertrand. Collective memory is powerful; within minutes of meeting at the Café, each of us was retelling fragments that came to mind. It felt like the 5 blind men describing an elephant, each describing a different part of the animal, until they realized they were describe the same one.

I had forgotten so much detail, I love this get together. We reconstructed our "winter astronomy expedition" where we nearly choked on the fumes when Gaétans' jacket caught fire in the tent at -20. The sky was cloudy.

Before going downtown, Alex and I laughed rummaging through the first photographs I ever made recovering a funny shot of Gaétan goofing off. Bertrand taught me all the basic photography skills of the day, smelly chemicals and all. In fact it seems we had a little "scientific community" going at the time, exploring the knowledge of the day.

Predictably, I suppose, we lived out our lives as they started. Our interests seem carved in stone from those teen age years forward. Bertrand and I ran off a quick list of our interests and activities over the years, and found them overlapping again; travel, teaching technology, software study, tracking astronomical events, personal fitness, photography, to name a few. I guess we really do have a lot in common.

Discussion turned to the future, reconnecting our lives with a few new threads. Now that the business of youth is out of the way, a new more relaxed plan takes shape.

Thank you for making this happen guys, I was worth every minute.
