Tips to devellop the Happiness Habit leads to success

Shawn Achor: The happy secret to better work #TED : http://on.ted.com

TRANSCRIPT OF THE LAST MINUTES OF THE TED CONFERENCE

We've found that there are ways that you can train your brain to be able to become more positive. In just a two-minute span of time done for 21 days in a row, we can actually rewire your brain, allowing your brain to actually work more optimistically and more successfully. We've done these things in research now in every single company that I've worked with, getting them to
write down three new things that they're grateful for for 21 days in a row, three new things each day. And at the end of that, their brain starts to retain a pattern of scanning the world, not for the negative, but for the positive first.
Journaling about one positive experience you've had over the past 24 hours allows your brain to relive it. Exercise teaches your brain that your behavior matters.
We find that meditation allows your brain to get over the cultural ADHD that we've been creating by trying to do multiple tasks at once and allows our brains to focus on the task at hand.
And finally, random acts of kindness are conscious acts of kindness. We get people, when they open up their inbox, to write one positive email praising or thanking somebody in their social support network.
And by doing these activities and by training your brain just like we train our bodies, what we've found is we can reverse the formula for happiness and success, and in doing so, not only create ripples of positivity, but create a real revolution.
Thank you very much.

Happiness Is Good for Your Heart

It's not news, just nice to have the scientists finally support the happy folks out there. Steve
If you had to choose a theme song for your life, would it be, "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" or "Don't Worry, Be Happy"? Great news if you picked the latter: You're less likely to have a heart attack.

INSTALLING A HUSBAND - Humorous tech support

I love this funny treatment of tech support. Thank you Veronique.
INSTALLING A HUSBAND:
USEFUL INFORMATION FROM A DESPERATE BRIDE
Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from a Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly underBoyfriend 5.0...

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate!
----------------------------
DEAR DESPERATE;
First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, whileHusband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html, try to download Tears 6.2, and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If those applications work as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automaticallyrun the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.
Please note Beer 6.1is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to re-install the Boyfriend 5.0 program. This is an unsupported application and will crash Husband 1.0!!!

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck!

IF THIS then THAT - Automate your task list!

The task list that does the job for you or at least gives you a solid push.

When the temperature in Laval hits 10, my instant messenger pops up and says "go for a bike ride". On the 17th Videotron resets my account to zero, I get a call at 6 P.M.; same for the cell phone.

Would you tell it to call a friend to wish her happy birthday? No way, but I might tell it to call me and set up the call.

It's all very powerful and full of possibilities. Finally a simple way to connect the real world to the computing world in one place. Tasks are not only created, they get done automatically. Steve.
If This Then That decided to make it possible for everyday events to trigger a customized action. The concept is as simple as the name: if “this” (a tweet, blog post, or weather event) happens, “that” (a phone call, a text, or post to your Facebook wall) happens automatically.
This service is still in closed beta; and available by invitation only; I have a few left. More automation is a good thing right? It could be a winner.
Steve

Job-hunting tips

This article is very realistic. Happy hunting. Steve.

10 common job-hunting mistakes (and how to avoid them) | TechRepublic Note: This article is also available as a PDF download.

1: Playing the generalist card

2: Building bloated resumes

3: Missing your target

4: Hibernating online

5: Sabotaging your networking efforts

6: Preparing too little (or not at all) for interviews

7: Missing opportunities on social media

8: Having weak communication skills

9: Failing to put in the hours

10: Going it alone

Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.

A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each  morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved  perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today.

His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.

After
many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled   sweetly when told his room was ready.
As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description
of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window.

I love it,' he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just
been presented with a new puppy.

'Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait.'

'That doesn't have anything to do with it,' he replied.
Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.

Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is
arranged .. it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it.
'It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice;
I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the
parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful   for the ones that do.
Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day
and all the happy memories I've stored away. Just for this time in my life.

Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in.
So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank
 account of memories!

Thank you for your part in filling my Memory Bank.  I am still depositing.
'Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

This is not for the faint hearted. Thanks for raising this item Johnny. I'm happy for this reality show, Inuit hunters see this version of reality all the time. City dwellers will find it upsetting, avert your eyes of course. Steve.
