Quick Quiz Preparation in Moodle 2.11 using a simple TXT editor

No way was I going to prepare hundreds of questions using Moodle when converters can do the work quickly and without error. It is also a very nice demonstration of the various types of questions you can use in Moodle.

Here is the quick way:

1. Prepare your questions in a word processor you know well. 
2. Add tags such as multichoice, essay, shortanswer, truefalse, description, cloze to indicate the type of question you have prepared (I type the tag once at the top of each group)

   this one uses the Aiken format eresource.npc.edu (note the absence of numbering, the Uppercase choices and the word ANSWER: in uppercase. Use the ENTER key at the end of each paragraph, and EMPTY PARAGRAPH separates the questions)

   B. Maybe this answer?
   
   C. Possibly this one?

   Convert the document to plain TXT format.
   -Method 1: Save the page in TXT format.
   -Method 2: A quick way to convert a word document to TXT is to copy the whole document (CTRL+A; CTRL+C) then paste the page into Notepad. This strips the page of any hidden codes.
4. Copy the whole stack of questions and PASTE them to Moodle XML Converter (locate the Paste here box)
5. Press Preview to check them over 
6. Press Download to save them in XML format
7. Go to Moodle Question Import and choose the XML format to upload.
   This video shows import GIFT format (I don't like this format, but the video is well done)

A new forum type "Standard forum displayed in a blog-like format" enables teachers to create forums which work as course blogs.
Sites upgrading to 2.0 which previously had blog visibility set to "Users can only see blogs for people who share a course" or "Users can only see blogs for people who share a group" will have blogs converted into blog-like format forums. Source: moodle.org

Choosing a Lesson Plan Database platform

Placing all lesson plans in a single database compelling idea and produces standardized reports that can be presented in word, pdf, excel and other formats. But choosing a system to use to capture them is more important. It is a large investment by all teachers and must be used long term. If you are new to Moodle and have no experience with other course management systems, consider beginning with something easy and straightforward, like creating a web page resource to post lesson plans and links to helpful online resources. Do that until you are really comfortable. Then, as your needs dictate, move on to other modules: maybe a little forum to discuss current events in your discipline, for example. When you are comfortable, you may consider bringing in a few key colleagues or leaders to demonstrate your course or site. • Convert your PPTs to .swf files using Open Office. The only disadvantage is that you will lose any animations.
• Print PPT handouts to a .pdf file and have your students download/view that as a resource.
• Use one of many Moodle features instead of PPT.

    • The lesson module which can also import a simple PPT
  • The Slideshow modulefor images or for presentations
  • The Book_module will present pages and can import a PPT
• Present a PPT with Flash

• Use PPTminimizer to dramatically reduce PPTs size.
