Sairee Hut Resort

We are at the Sairee Hut Resort and it is living up to expectations, down to decent WiFi in the rooms.

So begins the beach resort portion of the trip. 1.7 km beach at at our feet (pictures). Great for walking, not too crowded but there are lots of long tail boats and dive boats anchored all the way. Kayaking to the north looks possible, a short ride to the next little point. The sea is quite calm. The light but steady tropical breeze keeps me comfortable. Occasional long tail boats putter out to sea. Common Myna birds are feeding around the restaurant beach tables. Dangerously overloaded long tails are making their way to the dive boats now, no vests. My straight lemon juice drink is perfect, the straw is opened into the shape spoon at the base; I can't reach the bottom of my glass without inverting the straw. Ants survey the bamboo table.

This resort is recommended by lonely planet guide (supported by online comments) and you should book a week ahead even in low season (maybe more if you want some options). This reasonably priced resort (1500 B per standard room for one week) and is very nice with one of the few clean pools on the island. The staff speak excellent English.
