16:55 Tokyo time, gate 44. Boarding. I grab a promotional Japanese magazine at the door. All Japanese, I garnered what I could from the illustrations. Illiteracy is so sad.
The stewardesses at Thai Airways wore a variety of colourful sarongs. They look stunning. I was so busy noticing the smiles and greetings I forgot to show my boarding pass at the plane. But they were so polite; I eased unfettered to my seat.
The Thai Airways staff do smile a lot.
Flying out of Tokyo, four and a half hours to Bangkok. I pause for thought over Hiroshima; ahead Taipei on the left, Shanghai on the right.
Dinner is either pork or chicken. I go for the chicken with sticky rice. The first vegetable is a white carrot, an entirely new flavour yet familiar and delicious. This being airline food it bodes well for the rest of the food in Thailand.
9:30 PM. Landing in Bangkok I have been traveling for 24 hours nonstop since I put that cup of coffee down at breakfast this morning. I actually feel in sync, a little sleepy but not overly so.
