Movie - District 9 (2009)

Tons of special effects, fun if you bring your violence blocker for this one, gratefully the "bag o blood" scenes are shot from a distance, but the weapon fire is almost endless. There are several "this is going to hurt" moments that thankfully move on to more chase scenes instead of delivering the next level of violence that would have sent me home immediately. I would classify this film as violent sci-fi, and thin on the sci-fi angle. The action is continuous and keeps you on the edge of your seat, but the first person camera movement make it hard to keep up with all the players.
The documentary style works for me, it feels real and the story unpredictably takes many twists and turns. It looks like it was shot on my 1990's video camera. Is it a political statement? The MNU looks like UN backwards, could the application of goodwill be impossible and frought with political agendas? Yes.
I got to like some aliens for their heart despite being extra-ugly non-violent meat eaters. I expect the sequel to move to an extra violent level based on the type of audience they are targetting. It really exposes my need for cute bunny cartoon movies.
This was presented on a slightly out of focus digital projector. So the image quality was nothing to write home about. The image contrast was low. The sound was thin, lacking solid bass that would have delivered all those explosions.
