Picturesque Mountain Climbing the Easy Way in Bolzano

Still limping from my muscle strain in Verona (poor me). We walk the hot kilometre to the eastern end of the train station to ride the Rittner Cable Car (Funivia) to OberBozen.

To save 30 euro, we bought the three day pass for only 23 euro at the wonderful Tourist Information center at Piazza Walther (south east corner) they are outstanding. The card pays for itself on the first cable car ride.use.

This is the longest cable car in the world at 4.5 km rising a full kilometre above the valley floor, the views are stunning an it is fun to watch the tiny tiny cars and trucks running around below.

The entire mountain side is covered in vines and
farms. Then the five kilometre by train.

The Hiking Trail
There is a lovely hiking trail back from Klobenstein along the train track through the woods, I was going to walk it back but hurt my right thigh a few days earlier and my walking was wobbly at best.

ONE KILOMETRE  ALTITUDE
Once you are up there, there is no point in missing the half-hourly train from Oberbozen to Klobenstein.

The hundred year old five kilometre service is on narrow gauge rail (not as wobbly as other narrow gauge I have used). It hard to understand why a train would be installed here, but the cars are full despite servicing only two towns and a few  large farms and inns in between.

8 minute video of the train ride (not mine)
