The 2010 National Geographic Photography Contest

These pictures made for a lovely discussion after breakfast this Sunday morning. Many of them were routine in their content even though perfectly executed. Some were novel. I see so many images that even extremely rare or difficult ones appear banal to me if they don't push the boundaries.


I love these for example: 

1. the insect on the leaf is fine, but purple! Now that is exceptional. 
2. The sand dunes reflecting in the oasis. 
3. The storm cloud near the house, wow!
