Hide Global list from student accounts in Exchange

This article from Microsoft states that it is possible to control views of the Global Address List on a User by User basis. We could therefore block most of the GAL from student accounts ADED01 through ADED99; by using the Search Control Permission students would only see other student accounts.

Other half truths I found on the web attemting Server side restricted access to Global Address List using Address book Views in Exchange:
If it is OWA ONLY then hiding the users from GAL will be fine.

If it is Outlook, then it will cause a problem.


If the user is hidden from the GAL then Outlook cannot create the profile. It has to be able to see the user.

Furthermore, you will be unable to restrict users from viewing the GAL as that stops Outlook from doing what it needs as well. Source:
