Identifying a plant using google images

Friend or foe? I often find plants growing I would like to identify.

  1. Go to Google Images: http://images.google.ca/
  2. Describe some outstanding characteristic
    Example: yellow berries
    http://images.google.ca/images?m=1&hl=en&q=yellow+berries&start=18&sa=N&ndsp=18
  3. Flip through the images till you see something similar and click on the image.
    Example:
    http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/garden/archives/pyracantha.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/garden/archives/009004.html&h=2209&w=1937&sz=846&hl=en&start=26&sig2=j_YSQ6kxCwlwFCaZHaj4Ww&um=1&tbnid=tpC_qgwTWG1cRM:&tbnh=150&tbnw=132&ei=HJCjSNuUA5iieqiH6LEP&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dyellow%2Bberries%26start%3D18%26ndsp%3D18%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN
  4. The web page associated with the image will appear below, if you are lucky, the text will describe the plant in some detail and provide some name.
    COPY the name:
    Example:
    Pyracantha
  5. You can then PASTE the name to the USDA website for details:
Example: (The search box is at the top left)
    http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=PYCO2
  6. Choose some at random and see if they match your plant:
    http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=PYCO2&photoID=pyco2_003_avp.jpg
Any suggestions or improvements to this method are welcome.
