It is also handy when shopping for a PC since it runs in any browser right in the store.
- OCTANE. I find any PC with an Octane rating under 10,000 is unpleasant to use.
- Octane Chart: http://zipso.net/chromebook-specs-comparison-table/
- This is the only chart you need if you use Google Apps. I would love to afford a 20,000+ octane rating, so in my dreams I would buy the Pixel Chromebook; but not for $2000!
- Based on this table, only the Intel i5 equiped machines would be satisfying.
- Other tests I ran:
- At an Octane rating below 1000 the pages barely load, it is useless for apps,
- (It produced only 798 on Firefox on Ubuntu on an old Celeron laptop computer),
- In Chrome on my old Windows 7 netbook it registers 4700 and is barely tolerable for checking email.
I also tested Speedometer, but find it confusing and slow.
- My target for Speedometer is 100: http://browserbench.org/Speedometer/
