Movie - Babine

Go and see this movie. I left the room imagining myself writing a poem; instead I'm writing this.
"Babine" is storytelling that takes you away to a genuinely new place; far far from Hollywood. It is a story that could be told in any culture but the occasional use of old Quebecois terms keeps the dialogue real.

Fred Pellerin's mind carefully crafts and introduces every character for a reason; leading you gently to a new place where caring and wisdom replace the usual themes of success and power. The characters are satisfyingly complete and cover the spectrum one finds in real life.

The village has an eerie feel with odd lighting that supports the folk legend theme all the way to the end; hypnotized, only the light of reality in the last scenes brings you out of the soothing dream state; eventually back to the popcorn on the floor.
