Beautiful Sana Maria gorge, Crete, Greece

Boy am I tired.

Such a lovely cool morning, perfect for a nice long hike down Sana Maria gorge in southern Crete. The plan is to walk down 18 km from 2 kilometers up to the seashore. I had a dream that I would have to carry Ginette out before it was over.

"Take it easy" she said, but the trail is steep and it's easy to take long steps. Suddenly, pain in the knees sets in, by lunch I'm leaning heavily on two large walking sticks. I'm wishing the day was over. But we're only half way.

As we walk past the donkey ambulances, I beg the attendant to let me ride out of the gorge. He assures me that they are reserved for cardiac and other extreme cases. I'm really in bad shape, the last kilometers are endless. We are among the very last to leave the gorge and reach the vacant dock where the ship was.

The handy hotel saves the day as I get off my feet and lay down to sleep.

To this day Ginette laughs at the idea of me carrying her, when the reverse is what happened.

I'm so slow, we miss our return boat and stay at the local in at the foot of the gorge. We buy Comfort foods: room service Pizza, coke 1.5 l. 100g. milk Chocolate. I slept very well.
